So, what is a probate valuation?

A probate valuation is a system that helps to determine the value of a person’s assets upon their passing. Valuing the contents of a house can be a difficult task, especially where a large number of possessions have been accumulated over a lifetime, however, a full written probate valuation of personal belongings is a legal necessity. We will visit the property and compile a comprehensive list, detailing the value of all objects on a room-by-room basis. Do I need a probate valuation?

A probate valuation satisfies the inland revenue for inheritance tax purposes. Even if the estate does not qualify for inheritance tax, the value of the assets must be declared and a probate contents valuation suffices this.

Additionally, a probate provides a detailed inventory for sale or family distribution of the contents and may identify something of importance or value unbeknown to the executors or beneficiaries.

Probate contents valuations are very reasonable, starting at just £99 +VAT. They provide the right documentation for applying for probate and add piece of mind that the contents have been assessed by a professional valuer.
